Boys vs Girls

Ok...so we......who am I kidding......I am preparing for our family vacation to CA. We leave on Friday morning, we are attempting an 'all-the-way' drive. We are staying in San Diego for 4 days. We are going to Sea World and San Diego Zoo. Then we are stopping at Universal Studios. Rounding out to Anaheim for Disneyland and CA Adventures.

While I have been frantically getting 'got up' on necessary cleaning and laundry, I have made several observations. One, my boys are more equip in clothing than the girls. Taylan has 40+ shirts!!!!! 7 pairs of shorts and 5 pairs of pants!!!! And 8 pairs of PJs!!!!! This is AFTER he down sized and gave several articles of clothing to a friend. (He has been asked to down size again.) David has filled his part of the closet with shirts and his brother gave him 4 pairs of pants a while back.....on top of his 3 pants and 5 pairs of shorts. Now the girls on the other hand, do have a lot of clothes; However, in comparison to Taylan, I was baffled. Andi has 24 shirts, 8 pairs of pants (Thanks to a spoiling Gma) and a couple of cut off shorts. Brenaya has 21 shirts, 8 pairs of pants (Again, thanks Gma) and 3 pairs of shorts. Between the two girls they have 12 PJs!!!!!!! Janalise is well taken care of thanks to many hand me downs and gifts, her closet and drawers are FILLED!!!! Now as everyone suspects, mom is last on the list for new things. I have 5....count them on one hand......summer shirts (not counting the over sized T sirts I steal from David's closet.) 2 pairs of pants and 3 shorts/Capri. This is all fine and dandy.....I am not walking around naked...this is just my observation in preparing for CA.

My second observation, kids cleaning. Taylan, is a great 'cleaner,' he will immediately go to his room and will clean. His room looks great....until I look under the bed, in the closet and drawers. Who does he think he is kidding!!!! He will, however, help with the 'man' chores (right now in our house that includes, dishes, garbage and mowing the lawn.) Now the girls on the other hand, fight and fight to get anything done. It took the better part of yesterday afternoon to get their room clean. And they only will help with chores if someone is constantly watching them. I can't ask them to do something while I work on the things I need to get done and come back to check on them, I have to sit in the corner and remind them to do stuff!!!! ( I know, mom, your laughing!!)

My next observation is reaction. Taylan can't be scared into work; ie, no California. He knows that mom and dad are just as excited for this trip as they are and we don't want to cancel. The girls are TERRIFIED that we will leave them home with Gpa, so we have used CA as a threat.

The final observation, bed. Taylan will go to bed and fall asleep (or at least lay in bed quiet) where as the girls are talking, fighting and/or coming upstairs. No matter how many times we tell them to go back downstairs and be quiet, it is a nightly issue. I have camped outside their bedroom door on the stairs some nights and they still don't go to sleep.

Now is this really, boys vs girls, I don't know, but it is how I see it in my home.

That is so funny! It sounds like we have been doing the same sort of observations! :) I went through the kids winter clothes from last year the other day and realized that my tiny little almost 5 year old can still fit into some of her 3T and most of her 4T pants so we are good, but my HUGE almost 8 year old is another story. All of his jeans from last year are complete floods and won't fit over his belly (and last year he was wearing an 8 year old size). What can you do?

My kids are exactly the same when it comes to bedtime and chores. Peyton is easy... likes his room clean and it mostly always is. If I ask him to tidy up he has no problem doing so and even informs me if the house is becoming less than tidy! Pajha is my lazy little slob (bless her). She will sit in her room for HOURS staring at the walls when asked to clean her room. I literally have to sit in there and tell her what to pick up next in order for it to get done. Makes me crazy. In fact one day she refused and I went in with a trash bag, put everything (and I do mean everything) in it with her screaming at me to stop. Finally she got the point. I dumped it all out and she had to tidy it up. She has been a little easier since, but still has to be reminded of the garbage bag incident once in a while! KIDS.

Have fun on your trip. I am super jealous, sounds like it will be a blast!

Here's what I find interesting... other than Sunday clothes, I don't recall seeing any of your tops more than twice. I think we stress about people seeing us in the same clothes all the time, when it doesn't even matter!

Now on the bright side.... if you put your kids in charge of their own laundry, I don't think they'll have to do it very often. ;)

hahahaha, that is FUNNY!! I can't believe that Taylan has more clothes than his sisters. What is that all about??
I can totally picture the girls all freaked out about getting left at Grandpas house while you all go to California without them.
2 more "SLEEPS"!! 3 more for us!! HOORAY!!
